T<\/strong>he Society was formed in 2016 as a (501)(c)(3) organization to preserve the area’s history. The organization quickly identified its first project, the renovation of the Red Oak<\/strong> Teacherage, which was slated to be demolished.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Teacherage History 1914 – Present<\/span><\/span><\/h2>\n

The structure was built in the early 1900s as a girls’ dormitory for single female instructors who taught at Red Oak School. In the Late 1900s, the building was converted to four apartments for married teachers. In the 1980s, the Nash County Board of Education sold the building to a private owner who continued to rent the apartments.<\/p>\n

The Town of Red Oak Acquired the building in 2014 and conveyed ownership of the property to the Red Oak Area Historic Preservation Society (ROAHPS) in 2017. The Teacherage is the only original structure of the Red Oak Farm-Life High School that remains.<\/p>\n

Thanks to the past and present sponsors of the Red Oak Classic, our annual fund raiser to be held at the W.B. Ennis Park in Red Oak on September 11th and 12th, 2026. Our thanks also to the individual contributors. These fund have enabled us to install a new roof, new windows, new front porch, repair the other porches, and landscaping. The inside has been demolished to the wood in preperation for the next phase.<\/span><\/h1>\n
