Red Oak Area Historic Preservation Society
The Historic Preservation Society was formed in 2016 as a (501)(c)(3) organization to preserve the area’s history. The organization quickly identified its first project, the renovation of the Red Oak Teacherage, which was slated to be demolished.
Early History 1914 – 2014
The structure was built in the early 1900s as a girls’ dormitory for Red Oak Farm-Life High School. Later, it was converted to a teacherage for single female instructors who taught at Red Oak School. In the late 1950s, the building was converted to four apartments for married teachers. In the 1980s, the Nash County Board of Education sold the building to a private owner who continued to rent the apartments.
History since 2014
The Town of Red Oak acquired the building in 2014 and conveyed ownership to Red Oak Area Historic Preservation Society in 2017. The Teacherage is the only original structure of the Red Oak Farm Life High School.

The 2025 Red Oak Classic was made possible because of our awesome sponsors and advertisers. Please take a moment to review the 2025 Community Support Ad Book and let our sponsors and advertisers know that you read about them as a result of our fundraising event. Also, we hope that you will enjoy the articles and the information about the men and the history behind the Red Oak Teacherage Project.
As you review the still pictures and the video (to be posted later) from the 2025 Red Oak Classic, please pay special attention to the hardworking volunteers who kept the effort going! Thank you to all who participated!!
